Why Music is Important to Me

I have played the piano for over eight years, the violin for over seven years, the organ for two years, and the musical saw for one month. Because of my musical ability I have become increasingly involved in the community and my local church. Music has become very special to me, and I would love to eventually expand the collection of instruments that I play to include the mandolin and accordian.

So why is music important to me? I think it's because music has the power to influence my heart, mind, and soul in ways in which no other outside source can (except for God and His Word, the Bible). Music can be both exciting and sobering, scary and enlightening. Everywhere I go, I hear music; it plays at grocery stores, restaurants, swimming pools, and theme parks. But nothing is as enjoyable to me as actually playing my own music. I personally prefer classical and sacred music because they are calming and inspiring. When I perform music, I am always encouraged to step out and challenge myself, and that attitude spills out into some of my other daily activities. I also enjoy the opportunities I have to use music to glorify God and minister to other people.

My life does not revolve around music, but it has become a huge, positive influence in my life. I would encourage anyone who is starting to play a musical instrument to not allow anything to keep them from pursuing music. Also, for anyone who is currently involved in music, continue to challenge yourself and set high goals!

When I first got my violin, it came in one of those old casket-style cases. I have since bought a decent violin case on eBay, and I have been very pleased with the protection that it has provided. Finale Notepad Music Notation Software

Since I enjoy writing music, it was important for me to find a good, but inexpensive, music notation software. Finale Notepad, a free, no-limitations software offered by Finale, was the perfect solution for me. It is very easy to use, and you can print out quality sheet music in only a short time (that is, if you can write out the music fairly fast).
